Training: Powers of Attorney, Medical Advance Directives, and Guardianship

Please join The Legal Aid Society for an introduction to Powers of Attorney, Medical Advanced Directives and Guardianships.

Throughout our lives, we never know when we may lose the ability to make decisions and care for ourselves on our own. In this training we will cover a few options that are available to us and our clients to plan ahead for this possibility, as well as options for this assistance after capacity is lost.

This training will present information including:

  • An introduction to Powers of Attorney, Medical Advanced Directives and Guardianship

  • The scope and authority of each

  • A guide as to how to determine which one(s) may be appropriate for your particular client given their needs and situation

  • Ways that you can help a client obtain these

  • Ethical considerations

  • Tips to remain client centered in working with clients that may have diminishing capacity

  • Additional resources

The intended audience for this presentation is: Case/Care Managers or Coordinators, Community Health Workers/Patient Navigators, Social Worker, Clinicians - RN, MD, etc., Housing Specialist, Elected Officials/Representatives, Program Coordinators/Managers, Program Directors, and Attorneys. Other roles are of course welcome to attend!
